Small Resonant Tuned Magnetic Loop Antennas

Please note the following:

  • This presentation will be a brief overview of small loop antenna characterisics; make comparisions to other types of antenna; present some important construction details; and provide links to related articles and other resources. The purpose of this presentation is to give our club members (and attending guests) some basic information on small magnetic loop antennas to encourage them to explore this underutilized aspect of amateur radio.

  • Please note that the information presented here is only meant for the benefit of our club members. I have used several graphics "lifted" from various publications (without permission) and may have inadvertently used statements from articles and web pages without giving credit to the originator. I, therefore, request that you do not distribute any of this material nor make it otherwise available.

  • I have provided links on the "Resources Page" to some of the excellent articles that provided much of the information in this presentation. My thanks to Frank:N4SPP and Leight:VK5KLT for posting much of this information on-line! The ARRL Handbook and the ARRL Antenna Book also provided much useful information for this presentation. I encourage anyone interested in pursuing this topic to read through the linked articles and experiment, experiment, experiment !!!

  • DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE SMALL LOOP ANTENNA. I can not emphasize this enough: THEY CAN AND DO PERFORM!!!

  • Questions and comments can be addressed to Steve Prunella KC2SP: steve@hi-q-webs.com .
