Making the ESA As Effective As Possible

Conclusions:

  • Maximize the radiation resistance by making the antenna length as long as practical.

  • Use the largest diameter wire or tube radiating element that you can.

  • Make the antenna radiating element as straight as possible.

  • Make the current uniform over as much length as possible with coils and capacitive hats.

  • Make as good a ground system as is practical for your location.

  • Try to bring all resistive losses down to almost zero.



  • All of the above require that you make difficult choices and compromises.

    You still won't be able to have it all at the same time: Small Size, High Efficiency and Wide Bandwidth.

    That's The Dilemma of the Small Antenna!
